With 75 years of experience as a family-owned company, Linkosuo is well placed to take a long-term perspective in terms of profitability and continuity. The company has always been managed with future development in mind and controlled growth is still seen as being the target. By producing ingenious product innovations, the company has grown to become a significant player in the bakery market. The Linkosuo bakery leads the way in its class in terms of size and technology.

Social responsibility

People remain important while technological development moves the company forward. Recruiting and retaining competent people is clearly a challenge for the future. The company emphasises personnel training, induction and transfer of tacit knowledge.

Linkosuo has accepted the challenge of attracting young people to join the business and then training them: every year dozens of pupils and students get to know the bakery and the café during short visits or as part of longer practical training periods.

The promotion of wellbeing at work and amongst personnel is emphasised more and more by way of occupational health and safety, group activities and supporting leisure time hobbies.

Environmental responsibility

Linkosuo was already aware of environmental issues at the end of the 1960's when the new bakery was constructed. The most significant step taken at that time was to be the first company in Finland to introduce transportation of flour by tanker. The next important step was to introduce the use of natural gas in the 1980's, which was also when the company began sorting waste.

Today, the most important challenges in this sector are found in recovering waste heat and in continuous development of production towards ever more environmentally-friendly procedures. Linkosuon Leipomo Oy has an environmental programme aiming at minimising the environmental load caused by the company's own operations.

ISO 22000 quality system

Linkosuo was the first general bakery to have an ISO 22000 quality system. Linkosuo was the first Finnish general bakery to be awarded an ISO 22000 standard quality certificate. The long-term work done at the bakery culminated in the audit acceptance of the international enterprise management system.

ISO 22000 is a modern enterprise management system with focus on food safety. It helps to control product safety and to systematically develop the operations of the whole company. The roll-out of the system entailed training not only for personnel but also for interest groups and suppliers.

The audit was carried out by the international Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) and examined bakery operations from the point of view of documentation, departmental operations, production and personnel hygiene, quality targets and quality policy.
